My work as a photographer is about story telling. Whether I'm shooting your wedding day or a breaking news assignment for a magazine, I look for poignant moments and expressions that capture our shared humanity.

I began photographing weddings a few years ago while creating a documentary story about the ritual and ceremony involved in an indigenous Kenyan marriage. I continue to photograph the magic of weddings, but now do so in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Some of my first photographic subjects were actually wildlife and landscapes in East Africa-my childhood home. But Kenya is also a place of incredible cultural diversity and I soon turned my camera toward people.

I went on to study photojournalism at Syracuse University in New York and since then have photographed short and long-term projects in more than 15 countries. While living in the Philippines for three years, I completed assignments for The Far Eastern Economic Review, Newsbreak, Business Week, and TIME-Asia. And since returning from Southeast Asia in 2004, I've shot in-depth photo essays for The Washington Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, and Bloomberg News.

No matter where I am or who I'm shooting for, I believe making good stories is about blending in, demonstrating patience, and being ready for great moments as they unfold. And that's what I will do for you.
Kari and Dustin Reed got married on Oct. 20, 2007 at their alma mater in Chico, CA. They were a great couple to work with and welcomed me as they would a family member or guest. And they hired the best oldies band I've ever heard in my life.
